AGILE is currently detecting intense gamma-ray emission above 100 MeV from a source at Galactic coordinates whose position is coincident with the blazar PKS 0402-362.
Following the gamma-ray activity reported by Fermi-LAT (ATel #15903), AGILE is currently detecting increased gamma-ray emission from PKS 0402-362. Integrating from 2023-02-13 09:50 UT until 2023-02-15 09:50:24.000 UT, a maximum likelihood analysis yields a detection at 7 sigma level with a flux F = (3.4 +/- 0.8) E-06 ph/cm2/s (E > 100 MeV). Integrating from 2023-02-13 00:00 until 2023-02-15 00:00, we obtain the maximum flux F = (4.0 +/- 0.9) 10E-6 ph/cm2/s (E > 100 MeV) at a significance above 7.5 sigma.
The AGILE-GRID detection was obtained while AGILE is observing in spinning mode, surveying a large fraction of the sky each day. The source can be monitored with the public mobile application "AGILEScience" developed by the AGILE Team, available for both Android and iOS devices.
Multifrequency observations of the blazar PKS 0402-362 region are strongly encouraged.
