HAWC reports observations of NGC 1068 which was measured by
[IceCube](Abbasi et al. 2022 DOI: 10.1126/science.abg3395) as having evidence of being a source of astrophysical neutrinos.
We use the position from optical observations reported in the [SIMBAD catalog](http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-id?Ident=NGC+1068), located at:
RA = 40.67, Dec = -0.01
The HAWC dataset contains over 11,500 hrs of data on NGC1068, starting November 27, 2014 and ending October 21, 2021.
Assuming a power law spectrum with indices of -2.5, -3.0 and -3.5 we found
no significant detection in the region.
We proceeded to calculate the 95% upper limit on
the flux at 1 TeV: 1.52e-13, 6.21e-13, 1.04e-12 (TeV cm2 s)-1 respectively.
HAWC is a very-high-energy gamma-ray observatory operating in Central
Mexico at latitude 19 deg. north. Operating day and night with over
95% duty cycle, HAWC has an instantaneous field of view of ~2 sr and
surveys <2/3 of the sky every day. We are able to observe a full transit of NGC 1068 daily. It is sensitive to gamma rays from
300 GeV to 100 TeV.
