Starting at 00:55UT on June 1st, 2022, Swift performed a TOO observation of the MAXI error region reported in ATEL #15407. We find a highly piled up source in the 200s PC mode exposure at the following location: RA/Dec(J2000) = 267.05509, -36.13241, which is equivalent to:

RA(J2000) = 17h 48m 13.22s,
Dec(J2000) = -36d 07m 56.7s

with an error radius 2.6 arcseconds (90% confidence). This position lies less than 1 arc-second from the position of 1A 1744-361, confirming the outburst reported by MAXI. The X-ray spectrum, corrected for pile-up, is well fit by an absorbed power-law model with photon index 2.1 +/- 0.3, and an absorption 1.4 +/- 0.5 x 10^22 cm^-2. The flux corrected for absorption is ~5 x 10^-9 erg/s/cm^2 (0.3 - 10 keV).
