Comet C/2021 A1 (Leonard) was observed at the University Observatory Jena on 3 December 2021. In order to follow the orbital motion of the comet, to measure its apparent brightness, and to study its morphology several images of C/2021 A1 were taken in the R-band with the CCD-camera CTK-II, which is installed at the 25cm Cassegrain telescope of the observatory. During the imaging observations the comet was located next to the globular cluster M3 (angular separation of only 7arcmin). Furthermore, in the same night spectroscopic observations of the coma of the comet were carried out with the Échelle spectrograph FLECHAS, which is operated at the 90cm telescope of the observatory. In total, three spectra, each with an integration time of 900s, were taken in the 2x2 binning mode of the instrument (R~7400). Throughout the spectroscopy of C/2021 A1 the telescope was tracked on the center of the comet's coma. In the fully reduced FLECHAS spectrum of the comet in the wavelength range between 5000 and 7000Å many emission lines are detected (NH2, C2, and [OI]). The NH2 lines were used to measure the radial velocity of comet C/2021 A1 relative to the observing site, which is -58.9±1.1km/s at the mid-time of the observations (3 December 2021 03:51:29UT).
