On August 8, 2021, a new outburst of the nova RS Oph was discovered by Alexandre Amorim, Eddy Muyllaert and Keith Geary (AAVSO Alert Notice 752). RS Oph is a cataclysmic variable belonging to a small subgroup of novae called recurrent novae (of which there are only 7 confirmed members).
This object is also classified as a symbiotic binary system which contain a white dwarf that is remarkably close to the Chandrasekhar limit, therefore, it is a strong candidate for being a SNIa.
We report photometric measurements of this new outburst gathered with two twin 0.4m telescopes belonging to the LCOGT, in the Johnson (B and V) and SDSS (g', r', i' and z') bands. The observations were made from Siding Spring Observatory (Australia) on the nights of August 28 (with kb24 instrument), September 2 (with kb88 instrument) and September 7 (with kb24 instrument), approximately 20, 25 and 30 days after the outburst, respectively.
In the three nights of observation, the same setup was used for the exposure times: 6 sec (V), 22 sec (B), 7 sec (g'), 4 sec (r'), 12 sec (i') and 22 sec (z'). The Astrosource software (Fitzgerald et al. 2021) and APASS DR10 catalog used for the photometric calibration process.
Table 1 shows the values obtained (without reddening correction), in addition an image of the observed field can be seen here.
This work makes use of observations from the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network (LCOGT).
