Recently, X-ray flaring activity from GX 339-4 is reported in hard X-ray using Swift/BAT (15-50 keV) (ATel #14351) and Integral (ATel #14354). We report the detection of flaring activity from the source in the soft X-ray band using MAXI/GSC (2-20 keV). The X-ray flux has started to increase significantly in soft energy bands of MAXI/GSC from MJD 59238 (2021-01-24) and reached a maximum value of 36.6±6.4 mCrab (2-4 keV) on MJD 59248 (2021-02-03). Corresponding flux in the 4-10 keV has reached a maximum value of 67±8 mCrab. The hardness ratio HR1 (10-20 keV/4-10 keV) is varied between 0.4-0.9 and the hardness ratio HR2 (10-20 keV/2-4 keV) is varied between 0.5-0.9 respectively during the time-range MJD 59238-59248.
The daily average X-ray flux, as measured by Swift/BAT (15-50 keV) is 0.15±0.015 Crab on 59248 (2021-02-03).
We encourage further multi-wavelength observations.
This research has made use of the MAXI data provided by RIKEN, JAXA, and the MAXI team.
