Discovery of an Apparent Nova in M31

We report the discovery of an apparent nova in M31 on a co-added 810-s R-band CCD frame taken on 2020 Sep. 30.736 UT with the 0.65-m telescope at Ondrejov.

The object designated PNV J00430842+4108501 is located at R.A. = 0h43m08s.42, Decl. = +41o08'50".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is 271.9" east and 438.4" south of the center of M31 (see link to discovery image below).

The following R-band magnitudes were obtained using the 0.65-m telescope at Ondrejov:

2020 Sep. 23.138 UT, [20.0; 30.736, 17.2 ± 0.1.
