AGILE is detecting gamma-ray flaring activity above 100 MeV from the blazar PKS 0454-234 (also known as BZQ J0457-2324). For a 48h integration, from 2019-08-06 22:49:08 UTC until 2019-08-08 22:49:08 UTC, a preliminary multi-source maximum likelihood analysis yields a detection at the level of 5.2 sigma and a flux F(>100 MeV) = (1.6 +/- 0.6) x 10^-6 photons/cm^2/s.
The AGILE-GRID detection was obtained while AGILE is observing in spinning mode, surveying a large fraction of the sky each day. The source can be monitored with the public mobile application "AGILEScience" developed by the AGILE Team, available for both Android and iOS devices.
Multifrequency observations of PKS 0454-234 are strongly encouraged.
