Magellan Clay/LDSS3 Spectroscopic Classification of MASTER OT J140216.0-533228.8 and ZTF19aadoocn/SN2019xa as SNe Ia

We report the spectroscopic observations of the supernova candidates MASTER OT J140216.0-533228.8 and ZTF19aadoocn/SN 2019xa using the Low Dispersion Survey Spectrograph 3 (LDSS3) mounted on the 6.5m Magellan Clay telescope on UT 2019-01-28 07:46 and 08:10, respectively. MASTER OT J140216.0-533228.8 was discovered by MASTER robotic Net on 2019/01/21.098 (Atel #12412) at 16.4 mag. ZTF19aadoocn was discovered by The Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF; ATel #11266) on 2019-01-19 13:07:34 at r_ZTF = 17.8 mag. We used SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) to identify the type, phase, and redshift of the SN spectra. Both spectra match with SNe Ia near the peak. The redshifts derived from the best-fit templates are consistent with those of their hosts ESO174-005 (z=0.012570) and 2MASX J11562821+2000365 (z = 0.041211), respectively.

(1) We measure pEW(Si II 6355) ~ 43 A for ZTF19aadoocn/SN2019xa, qualifying it as likely "Shallow Silicon" (SS) in the Branch classification system (Branch et al., 2006), including 1999aa and 1991T subtypes.
