The 60cm BOOTES-3/YA robotic telescope at NIWA-Lauder in Central Otago (New Zealand) followed up Swift J1728.9-3613 (Barthelmy et al. GCNC 23493/ATel #12436) / MAXI J1728-360 (Negoro et al. ATel #12437) at 16:13 UT on Jan 28 (~14.85 h after trigger). Within the Swift/BAT error box (3 arcmin radius), we identify a tentative optical counterpart at coordinates (J2000) RA = 17:28:50.32, Dec = -36:12:21 (+/- 1") with a preliminary magnitude of 16.70 (clear filter), which is not present in the DSS archival plates, which we propose as the tentative optical counterpart for this new transient. Spectroscopic observations are requested to confirm this relation. Further observations are planned to check for variability.
