We obtained a spectrum of classical nova candidate PNV J00424214+4114457 (see ATel #11904) with the SPRAT spectrograph (R~350; Piascik et al. 2014) on the 2-m Liverpool Telescope (Steele et al. 2004) on 2018 August 7.06 UT.
The spectrum shows strong Balmer emission lines (Hα, Hβ, Hγ, Hδ) with a FWHM of about 1700 km/s. We also detect three emission lines from multiplet 42 of Fe II.
We conclude that PNV J00424214+4114457 is a nova eruption within M31 and it is likely to belongs to the Fe II taxonomic class.
Follow-up observations are encouraged.
