During a 5 ks observation with the Chandra X-ray Observatory on 2007 August 1, we detected a bright X-ray source consistent with the location of the neutron star Low Mass X-ray Binary SLX 1737-282. The Chandra position of R.A. = 17h 40m 42s.83, Decl. = -28d 18' 08".4 (equinox 2000.0, 90% confidence uncertainty = 0".6) is within the ROSAT error circle for the LMXB (in 't Zand et al. 2002, A&A, 389, L43). The Chandra/ACIS count rate for the source is 1.125 c/s, which implies a 0.3-10 keV absorbed flux of at least 2 x 10^-11 ergs/cm^2/s. However, instrumental pile-up will need to be taken into account for an accurate determination of
the flux and spectral shape. Using the USNO-B1.0 and 2MASS catalogs, the closest optical and infrared source to the
Chandra position is 3.5 arcseconds away. The source is bright in the IR (K = 6.9) as well as the optical (I = 13.1), but the separation between the Chandra source and the optical/IR source is too large for the sources to be associated.
