We obtained a spectrum of classical nova candidate M31N 2017-09e (PNV J00421219+4110192; see CBAT TOCP) with the SPRAT spectrograph (resolution R ~ 350; Piascik et al. 2014) on the 2-m Liverpool Telescope (Steele et al. 2004) on 2017 Sep 29.09 UT.
The spectrum shows strong Balmer emission lines (Hα, Hβ, Hγ, Hδ) and we measure the FWHM of Hα to be ~1700 km/s. We identify numerous Fe II emission lines, including the 27, 28, 37, 38, 42, 48, 49 and 74 multiplets. We also identify emission from N II 5679 Å, Na I D, Si II 6347/6471 Å, N I 7452 Å and O I 7774 Å. Several lines show P-Cygni profiles, including the Na I D, N I, N II, O I and Si II features. This spectrum confirms M31N 2017-09e is a classical nova in M31 and member of the Fe II spectroscopic class.
