We report the spectroscopic classification of nuclear transient Gaia17bwh, discovered by the Gaia Science Alerts programme. A low resolution (R = 350) SALT/RSS spectra was taken on 2017-08-25, under the SALT Large Programme on transients (2016-2-LSP-001).
Spectrum shows narrow emission lines of Halpha, [OIII], [OII], SII and Hdelta in absorption at redshift 0.059. Due to strong galaxy contamination classification by SNID code (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) did not give conclusive results but presence of broad absorption features, most likely associated with SiII, MgII, FeII, SII and SIII, suggests SN Type Ia over 40 days after maximum.
