The Nearby Supernova Factory reports the discovery of supernova SNF20070422-001 (coordinates RA 12:56:53.77 DEC 22:22:22.1 J2000.0) located in IC 3918 (redshift 0.0217, Van Driel et al. 2000 A&AS, 144, 463 via NED) from images obtained April 22.4 UTC with the QUEST-II camera on the Palomar Oschin 48-inch telescope, operated by the Palomar-QUEST Consortium, at an approximate magnitude of 16.7. The supernova was not present to mag 20.5 on images from April 4.5 UTC and was confirmed on an image obtained April 23.5 with the Supernova Integral Field Spectrograph on the University of Hawaii 2.2-meter telescope.
