Following the discovery of supernova SN 2017eaw by Patrick Wiggins (Dong and Stanek 2017, ATel#10372), we inspected archival Catalina Survey images covering the location. CSS observations taken starting at UT 2017-05-07 10:15:01 show the presence of a faint object at the location.
Based on comparison with archival PS1 photometry, we estimate this source had a magnitude of
V_CSS=19.8+/-0.6 at the time.
