The Asiago Transient Classification Program (Tomasella et al. 2014, AN, 335, 841) reports the spectroscopic classification of ASASSN-17ff in NGC 3506(AT 2017dfq), discovered during the ongoing All Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae (ASAS-SN), cf. Atel#10301.
The observation was performed with the Asiago 1.82 m Copernico Telescope equipped with AFOSC (range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.4 nm).
Survey Name | IAI Name | Discovery date (UT) | Discovery mag | Observation (UT) | Type | z | Notes|
ASASSN-17ff | SN 2017dfq |2017-04-20.25 | 16. 4 |2017-04-21.81 | SN Ia | 0.021358 | (1) |
(1) A good match is obtained with several Type Ia SNe around B-band maximum light. From the position of the minimum of the Si II 635nm feature, we infer an expansion velocity of 11300 km/s for the ejected material, using the redshift z=0.021358 of the host galaxy NGC 3506 (De Vaucouleurs et al., 1991 RC3.9, via NED).
Classification was done with GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A&A, 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024). The Asiago classification spectra are posted at the website http://sngroup.oapd.inaf.it.
