ASASSN-15ga was identified by the All Sky Automated Survey for
SuperNovae (ASAS-SN) (ATel #7317). The associated galaxy is NGC 4866 with z=0.0066.
We conducted a spectroscopic observation of ASASSN-15ga at
2015-04-01T:01:48:16 UT. A spectrum was obtained in the visible (400-800nm) with resolution R~350,
using the SPRAT spectrograph on the Liverpool Telescope.
Classification using SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) indicates it is a 91bg like type Ia supernova.
The closest matching spectrum is SN1999by and estimated age is 3 days pre-maximum.
The expansion velocity estimated from the Si-II 635.5 nm absorption line is 10700 km/s.
