A. Gal-Yam and D. Leonard report for the CCCP: We have observed SN 2005ea (Gray and Lane; IAUC # 8600 ) with the DBSP spectrograph mounted on the Hale 200" telescope at Palomar Observatory on 2005 October 25 UT, under poor conditions. Reduction of the noisy red spectrum shows it is similar to
that of SN Ia 1994D around 30 days after maximum light (Filippenko 1997, ARA&A, 35, 309).
We therefore tentatively identify this event as a type Ia SN.
