We report spectroscopic observations of the recent M31 nova candidate, M31N 2010-10c (CBET #2500). At our request a spectrum (410–950 nm) of M31N 2010-10c was obtained by Sergey Rostopchin on 2010 Oct. 17.35 UT (~2 days post discovery) with the Marcario Low-Resolution Spectrograph on the 9.2m Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET). Our HET spectrum reveals prominent Balmer (FWHM Hα ~ 2000 km/s), Fe II (42), and O I emission features. These observations establish that M31N 2010-10c is indeed a nova, and that it is a member of the Fe II spectroscopic class.

We are grateful to K. Nishiyama and F. Kabashima (Miyaki-Argenteus Observatory, Japan) for quickly bringing the nova candidate to our attention. A.W.S. thanks the NSF for support through AST-0607682 and the University of Victoria for hospitality during his sabbatical leave.
