Spectroscopic Classification of SNe 2009kq and 2009kr

We made spectroscopic observations of the apparent supernovae SN2009kq reported by Gagliano et al in CBET 2005 and SN2009kr reported by Kinuhasa et al in CBET 2006. The reported locations were observed with the Double Beam Spectrograph on the Palomar 200-inch telescope on UT 2009 Nov 8.50 and UT 2009 Nov 8.49 respectively in the wavelength range of 3400 - 10000 Angstroms. The templates were compared with standard templates using the SNID (SuperNova IDentification) software.

We report that SN2009kq best matches the Type Ia-norm SN 1989B at about 6-9 days before peak. Correcting for the recession velocity of the host galaxy (MCG +05-21-1, z=0.011698), the blueshifted velocity of the Si II line at 6355 A is about 14500 km/s.

SN2009kr shows a featureless blue continuum with narrow emission lines from the hydrogen Balmer series. The H-alpha line is narrow and prominent with a FWHM of 19.4 A (880 km/s) with z=0.0063 which matches that of the host galaxy NGC1832 (z=0.006468+/-0.000017). This is suggestive of a Type IIn supernova spectrum.
