Radio detection of XTE J1752-223 with the ATCA

Following the detection of the new X-ray transient, XTE J1752-223, by RXTE and Swift (ATel. #2258; see also ATels. #2259, #2261, #2263, #2265, #2268, #2269), we have performed radio observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array and the new CABB back-end. Data were obtained at 5.5 GHz and 9 GHz on October 30 and November 1. We detect a radio source at a position consistent with the X-ray coordinates. An average of the two 9 GHz positions puts the source at RA 17:52:15.095, Dec -22:20:32.782 (to 0.3" positional uncertainty), consistent with the optical position reported in ATel. #2263.
Preliminary analysis suggests a flux density of ~2 mJy at 5.5 and 9GHz and a spectrum consistent with that of a compact jet, routinely associated with the low/hard spectral state. The X-ray spectral softening reported in ATel. #2265 suggests that a state transition may be imminent and so we will continue radio monitoring in anticipation of an ejection event.
