The Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) Unbiased Transient Survey (NUTS; ATel #8992) reports the spectroscopic classification of SN 2017pp in PGC 1378162. The candidate was discovered by F. Ciabattari, E. Mazzoni, S. Donati (ISSP; http://italiansupernovae.org ).

The observation was performed with the 2.56 m Nordic Optical Telescope equipped with ALFOSC (range 320-960 nm; resolution 1.5 nm FWHM).

SN 2017pp | 2017-01-26.160 | 17.1 | 2017-01-28.258 | 0.029944 | Ia | after max | (1)

(1) The redshift of the host galaxy is taken from Kent et al. 2008, AJ, 136, 713. The spectrum resembles that of a SN 1991T-like event, observed about one week after the light curve maximum. The expansion velocity of the ejected material, as derived from the minimum of the 635.5 nm Si II line, is about 9200 km/s.

The classification was performed using the GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A&A, 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) tools. Calibrated spectra and additional information can be retrieved in the IAU Transient Name Server.
